The Spanish Royal Mint (Casa de la Moneda) was established in 1893 together with the Stamp Factory (Fábrica del Sello), which so far had been two different establishments sharing a building in Plaza de Colón, merged to create the Fábrica Nacional de Moneda y Timbre. Banknote production started in 1940.
The mint is producer of circulating coins, collector coins, banknotes, security paper, id documents, electronic cards, graphic products and medals.
