The Bank of Lithuania is one of the most important state authorities and part of the Eurosystem.ABOUT Bank of Lithuania:
The Bank of Lithuania started operating in 1922. Its first Governor was Prof Vladas Jurgutis. The Bank is based in the centre of Vilnius. The building from the 19th century was designed specificaly for the bank, for the first time in the coutry. In 2003, the building was included into the Register of Immovable Cultural Valuables of the Republic of Lithuania.
The primary functions of the Bank of Lithuania are maintaining price stability, formulating and implementing the monetary policy and also acting as an agent of the State Treasury. Until 2015, the Bank of Lithuania was responsible for issuing the former Lithuanian currency, the litas.
