ALBERTI, LEO BAPTIST (Ital.), 1404-1472, a member of the ancient Florentine family of that name, was born in that city on the 18th February 1404. ALEXAS (Greek). Gem-engraver. The Brit. Museum possesses a fragment of a cameo on which figures a hippocamp, a type copied from Greek coins. Alexas had two sons, Aulus and Quintus, who both distinguished themselves in the glyptic art.
