The primary task of the United States Mint is to produce circulation coins, but also to major commemorative and investment coins, including legendary US silver dollars, which are the most famous and most sought-after by collectors in the world.
United States Mint was founded in 1792 (its first branch was the Philadelphia Mint) and now it has six active parts: the Washington headquarters, the Fort Knox depository and the mints in Philadelphia, West Point, Denver and San Francisco. The mints in Carson City and New Orleans have ceased their activities.
