ABOUT The Perth Mint:
The Perth Mint was established in 1899 as an Australian colonial branch of United Kingdom's Royal Mint. In the 19th century, the population of Western Australia grew rapidly, mostly due to the discovery of gold in Kalgoorlie, Coolgardie and Murchison, which were regional colonies. The Mint remained under jurisdiction of Great Britain until 1.7.1970, when it became the statutory authority of the Government of Western Australia. Now the mint belongs to Gold Corporation, which is wholly owned by the Government of Western Australia.
Perth Mint is responsible for the refining of precious metals, the production of gold bars, industrial products and the minting of coins and other products. Currently, the mint produces investment coins, investment gold bars, commemorative and numismatic coins.
The Mint has an excellent reputation for high quality of its production and is a major supplier of precious metal blanks for other mints, including some other well-known mints in the world.
